11-hour police stand-off in Barrhaven ends peacefully

A nearly 12-hour police standoff in Barrhaven has ended peacefully.
Officers were called to Hathaway Drive, in the Chapman Mills and Davidson Heights area, Monday around 5 p.m., after reports of an armed man.
Residents of the area were asked to shelter in their basement if possible, while police tried to deescalate the situation.
Roads in the area had to be closed for several hours for the police operation.
Eleven hours later, just after 4 a.m. Tuesday, officers say one man was apprehended without injury.
Ottawa police would like to thank the residents for their patience, as well as their negotiators, and an on-call psychologist.
The area is now considered safe.
