A snow squall watch has been issued for an area, including Ottawa and Smiths Falls.
Environment Canada is forecasting an intense snow squall to develop during the late morning hours and move across the region during the afternoon.
Heavy snowfall is expected at times, resulting in a quick 5-10 cm of accumulation by the evening, along with strong northwesterly winds, gusting up to 60 km/hour.
The snowfall combined with strong winds is expected to result in blow snow and reduced visibility on area roads. Anyone who has to travel during that time is urged to do so with caution.
The snows quall watch is in effect for:
- Ottawa
- Smiths Falls
- Gatineau
- Prescott and Russell
- Lanark
- Sharbot Lake
- Cornwall
- Morrisburg
- Brockville
- Prescott
- Westport
- Charleston Lake
- Merrickville-Wolford
- Kemptville
Environment Canada says snow squalls cause weather conditions to vary considerably, going from clear skies to heavy snow within just a few kilometres.
