Ottawa ice cream shop shuts down during stay-at-home order to avoid unnecessary contact

A local ice cream shop is going the extra mile by closing its doors during the province-wide stay-at-home order.

The owner of Moo Shu Ice Cream explains on social media that even though the rules still permit takeout, she has decided to restrict her business' services.

“Let's be real — ice cream is not really an essential service. It is especially not so when COVID cases are at an all time high, and avoiding unnecessary contact takes precedence over the joy of sharing our ice cream with you,” writes Liz Mok.

The shop on Bank Street will remain open until Sunday, April 11, so whatever pre-packaged items in stock can be sold.

“We have lots of pints, dip bars, and frozen dumplings available. After that, our shop staff will be staying at home as well until the provincial restrictions are lifted.”

Moo Shu is asking customers to order on its online store, where pickup times can be scheduled.

The local spot adds that it will continue to keep the 'Mooshies' employed, paid with their benefits intact, and as safe as possible until the store reopens.
