Man charged with second degree murder in Chinatown stabbing

Ottawa police have officially charged one man with second degree murder following a stabbing in Chinatown, as well as a few other charges relating to another incident involving an elderly man.
Police received a report of a man who had been stabbed Friday at about 9:40 a.m. at the intersection of Somerset Street West and Arthur Street.
Carl Reinboth, 64, was rushed to hospital with life-threatening injuries and was later pronounced dead.
According to the Somerset West Community Health Centre, Reinboth worked at the centre as member of the harm reduction team.
“We are devastated that Carl Reinboth, a member of the Somerset West Community Health Care staff, as died,” Naini Cloutier, executive director at the SWCHC said in a statement. “He was a much loved and respected member of our staff who had been with SWCHC for many years. In his job, he provided thoughtful support to many members of our community.”
“Our deepest sympathies go to his family and to all who knew him,” Cloutier continued. “Carl will be sorely missed. This tragedy is a great loss to the SWCHC family.”

“Yesterday our community was shocked to learn that a much loved & respected member of the @SWCHC harm-reduction team was tragically killed,” Coun. Catherine McKenney wrote on Twitter. “This caused grief & trauma for those who knew him & others in our neighborhood. Please reach out if you need help.”

Police announced Saturday morning that they had charged 20-year-old Honor Charley in the stabbing death of Reinboth.
Charley was also charged with aggravated assault and attempt to murder in relation to serious injuries sustained by a second victim, an 84-year-old man who remains in hospital.
Charley is currently in police custody and scheduled to appear in court on April 24.
