Ottawa expands eligibility for COVID-19 vaccine appointments at community clinics

By Victoria Williston

All Ottawa residents 12 and older may now sign up for a last-minute vaccination waitlist for first doses available at community clinics.

Those who received their first shot on or before May 9 or are considered highest-risk healthcare workers can sign up for a second dose.

The waitlist resets daily at 11:59 p.m., so residents are encouraged to sign up every day until they get an appointment.

In a release, the city said they expanded the eligibility for the last-minute waitlist to “help clinics operate more efficiently by letting them administer all of the vaccines prepared for use each day.”

Late last week, the head of Ottawa's vaccination rollout said the city was seeing between 300 and 400 no-shows a day at community clinics.

Residents that sign-up for the vaccination waitlist will be given a time to show up at one of the city's clinics where they will then be able to get a COVID-19 vaccine.

The waitlist is available on the City of Ottawa website.
