Arrest made in downtown Ottawa sexual assault, stalking case

A 58-year-old man is facing charges after an Ottawa police investigation into sexual assault and stalking incidents downtown.

The Ottawa Police Service (OPS) launched its investigation after receiving a complaint from a woman saying she had been sexually assaulted by a man in September of 2021. She had recognized the man as someone that had been following her for months prior.

On December 7, Justin Pyke, of no fixed address, was charged with:

  • Sexual Assault
  • Harassment by repeatedly following another person (two counts)

He appeared in court on December 8.

Investigators are concerned that there may be more victims.

The Ottawa Police Service Criminal Investigation and the Sexual Assault and Child Abuse (SACA) Section says its investigators will respect a victim’s wish to pursue or not pursue an investigation. It adds, the reporting of incidents of violence against women to police is key in identifying suspects and determining crime trends.
