The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is laying charges in connection with a serious three vehicle collision near Pembroke.

The Upper Ottawa Valley (UOV) Detachment of the OPP responded to the crash, on Highway 17 at B Line Road, around 6:30 a.m. on Wednesday, December 15.

Police say a tractor trailer was heading westbound on Highway 17 when it collided with a southbound SUV on B Line Road. The impact of the crash caused the tractor trailer to also hit with an eastbound SUV on the highway.

The driver of the tractor trailer, a 23-year-old from Winnipeg, has been charged under the Highway Traffic Act with failing to stop for a red light.

The driver of the SUV on B Line Road, an 86-year-old from Laurentian Valley Township, was extricated from their vehicle and flown by ORNGE to an Ottawa hospital with serious, non-life threatening injuries. The passenger in the vehicle, a 61-year-old from Kingston, was taken to local hospital by land ambulance with non-life threatening injuries.

The driver of the eastbound SUV on Highway 17, a 41-year-old from Deep River, also suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to hospital by land ambulance, while the driver of the transport and their passenger were not injured.

Highway 17 was closed for several hours between B Line Road and Round Lake Road, but has since reopened.
