COVID-19 outbreaks force Ottawa’s largest emergency vet clinic to shut doors

Emergency care for Ottawa’s pets is going to be scarce for a bit as three emergency clinics in the city have been forced to shut their doors due to COVID-19 outbreaks.
The Ottawa Veterinarian Hospital (VCA) and the Ottawa Emergency and Specialty Hospital said in an announcement earlier this week that it will be closed as a number of its staff are isolating due to contracting, or being exposed to, COVID-19.
The closure at the Alta Vista Animal Hospital was effective as of December 23.
“We have a number of active COVID-19 cases in our hospital and a large number of colleagues under isolation,” the announcement of the Alta Vista Animal Hospital’s door read. “As such, we are only able to provide immediate life-saving measures through emergency care.”
Those looking to pick up refilled medications or food may do so, although, they are only offering curbs service until further notice.
In its own announcement, the Ottawa Emergency and Speciality Hospital says on its website that they are not currently accepting any more patients as they have reached capacity that its available staff or facilities can accommodate.
“We are constantly re-assessing our intake ability, and we will update this website as soon as we are able to being taking patient in again,” the announcement says.
Other emergency options that would be the closest for pet owners include the Centre Vétérinaire Laval, Centre Vétérinaire Rive-Sud both located in Montreal an and VCA Emergency Clinics in Toronto, the VCA tweeted.
