Murder charge laid in 2023 case where 26-year-old was killed

Over three years later, Ottawa police have charged a 48-year-old in connection with a murder that happened in a southeast rural corner of the city.

Officers responded to 4000 block of Farmers Way, west of Carlsbad Springs and near Mer Bleu Bog, at approximately 3:45 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 19, 2023 after people witnessed a shooting.

Police said they found a man at the scene with gunshot wounds, who later died of his injuries.

The man was identified as Granit Ahmeti, 26, of Ottawa.

On Tuesday, officials said they have arrested and charged Richard Micks of Georgian Bay with first-degree murder. He’s expected in court on Aug. 26.

Man killed remembered as the ‘kindest friend’

In reaction to Ahmeti’s death, friends and family flooded the community with messages of how impactful he was.

In a Facebook post from Canadian towing, which Ahmeti was part owner, they say he was a selfless, loving and kind person.

“His energy and smile were always so contagious and his love for life was unmatched. We will miss him more than words can express,” it reads.
