Senators name Trent Mann and Ryan Bowness as assistant GMs

The Ottawa Senators have named two new assistant general managers (GMs), the team announced on June 30.

Senators chief amateur scout Trent Mann was promoted, while Ryan Bowness was hired after serving as the the director of professional scouting with the Pittsburgh Penguins.

Mann has served as the team's lead amateur scout since October of 2016, and has been a part of the team since 2010 when he joined as a part-time amateur scout.

“Trent has shown to be one of the top evaluators of amateur talent in the industry and has progressed to become an invaluable resource to the entire organization,” said Senators general manager Pierre Dorion in a release.

The New Brunswick-native will continue to serve in the same scouting role while adding greater player developmental responsibilities to his portfolio.

Bowness has spent the past six season with the Pittsburgh Penguins including the last three campaigns as the team's director of professional scouting. Prior to joining the Penguins, he spent seven seasons as a member of the Winnipeg Jets hockey operations department, in a number of different positions including professional scout, manager of hockey operations and manager of player development.

“Ryan is a critical thinker whose experience will allow him to contribute to a wide variety of areas,” said Dorion. “His success in professional scouting along with his ability to communicate in detail makes him an ideal complement to our hockey group.”

The decisions are effective July 1, and Bowness will  join Dorion, Mann and the Senators hockey staff in Montreal ahead of the start of this year's National Hockey League (NHL) Draft which begins on July 7.

“On top of the success they have achieved in NHL, both are excellent hockey minds, hard workers and quality leaders,” said Dorion.
