Councillor Tim Tierney talks construction projects, rats and re-election

By CityNews Staff

After a series of strikes and construction contract issues delaying projects, much of the work is back on track in Ottawa's east end.

Tim Tierney, city councillor for Beacon Hill-Cyrville, told The Sam Laprade Show on Friday, Aug. 26, that although it's positive that things are progressing again, there's frustration over the required closures of ramps and roads.

“We're hearing it loud and clear from our residents that, you know, when they see construction taking place at 6:30 in the morning on a bicycle path, that's probably not the most appropriate time to do it,” he said.

He added that the construction and closures could also impact revenue from a tourism perspective.

Rat complaints, especially in the east end, are also a challenge Tierney said he's been working on with Ottawa Public Health and bylaw services.

“I think we're gonna have to start paying more attention to that because I don't see the problem reducing, especially around where there's a lot of construction, and you've disturbed habitat for all these animals,” he said.

Tierney will be seeking re-election for his ward in the upcoming municipal election.
