Hawkesbury and District General Hospital has the longest wait time in Ontario for a first assessment by a doctor

The emergency department at one hospital in eastern Ontario has the longest wait time to see a doctor according to new data Health Quality Ontario (HQO). 

New statistics from HQO shows the average wait time for a first assessment by a doctor at the Hawkesbury and District General Hospital emergency department in July of 2022 was 4.6 hours,which was more than the double the provincial average. 

On average, patients waited 2.1 hours for the first assessment in emergency departments across the province. 

The Perth site of the Perth And Smiths Falls District Hospital had a wait time of 1.2 hours in July. 

The general campus of the Ottawa Hospital had the longest wait time for a first assessment by a doctor in its emergency department of all hospitals in the capital, with an average wait time of 3.6 hours, while wait times at the Queensway Carleton Hospital averaged 3.2 hours. 

At the Montfort Hospital, wait times were estimated at 2.3 hours last month, while the wait time to see a doctor at the emergency department of the Ottawa Hospital Civic Campus was 3.1 hours in July. At the Children's Hospital of Eastern Ontario (CHEO), the average wait time to see a doctor for a first assessment was three hours.
