A local politician is shedding more light on the reasons for her recent leave of absence, as she prepared to return to the Ontario legislature.
Nepean Member of Provincial Parliament (MPP) Lisa MacLeod announced that since suffering a mental health crisis in May 2022, which drew attention to her broader mental and physical health challenges, she has been diagnosed with both bipolar and metabolic disorders.
In the post on LinkedIn, MacLeod wrote that while initially difficult to come to grips with, she's confident she will be able to manage her diagnoses with medication, regular therapy and changes to her nutritional and exercise routines.
MacLeod thanked her constituents, family, office staff and her government colleagues for their support. She also gave kudos to the staff of the Queensway Carleton Hospital and both the Civic and General campuses of the Ottawa Hospital for their care.
MacLeod is set to return to work at the Ontario Legislature on Tuesday, Oct. 25.
