‘Gingerbread Man’ owner in Manotick hopes to raise $100K after fire destroys shop

Ahead of the holiday season, a beloved bakery in the Manotick community is hoping to 'rebuild' after a fire destroyed the shop.

For nearly two decades, 'The Gingerbread Man', a one-of-a-kind shop, has been home to countless treats including its famous butter tarts, Kawartha ice cream and of course, gingerbread showpieces.

But now, Richard Palframan is hoping to raise about $100,000 to restore his shop, after a fire destroyed all the food including the freshly decorated gingerbread houses, kitchen equipment and family treasures and memorabilia.

According to the GoFund Me Page, Palframan brought the business to Manotick in 2001 and since then, the community grew fond of what the shop had to offer time and again.

“Unfortunately, the fire destroyed the shop at the busiest time of year, with Christmas fast approaching, ” Palframan said on the GoFundMe page. “While we may not have many answers, we hope to rebuild and bring back the Gingerbread Man to Manotick!”

As of Saturday, Nov. 5, the GoFund campaign has raised just over $3,000.
