UPDATE: Suspect in overnight stabbing homicide arrested

The man suspected of committing the city's first homicide of 2023 has been arrested.

Ottawa Police Serivces (OPS) issued a warrant for the arrest of Joshua Brennan after responding to an apartment in the 2700 block of Saratoga Place, in between Hunt Club Road and Bridle Path Drive, around 1:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 31.

Officers found a man and woman suffering from stabbing injuries and both were taken to hospital.

According to police, the man, 45-year-old James Samson, succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at hospital.

The woman, in her 50s, remains in hospital in stable condition.

Brennan is scheduled to appear in court tomorrow, Feb. 1.
