Hintonburg cat café closing after six years
Ottawa's first cat café is closing its doors.
Feline Café first opened six years ago at 1076 Wellington Street in Hintonburg, allowing customers to have a coffee or latte while getting to know cats who need permanent homes.
In a post on social media, management says the financial effects of closures during the Covid-19 pandemic is one of the reasons for the decision to close.

“The COVID closures over 2020-2022 had been incredibly difficult from a business perspective, and we've still been suffering from the financial losses during this period where we barely managed to survive. This hardship, combined with the coming inflation and recession, has caused us to reach the decision that now is a good time to close the café.”
So what happens to the cats?
Management said while the café is closing, the mission to save cats lives on through the Feline Café Foundation's team, which will continue to run rescue operations remotely.

Also, the café will hold a weekend rummage sale on Saturday, March 4 and Sunday, March 5 in an effort to recoup some of its losses.

“It has been an incredible six years here in Wellington West, having built a community of cat-lovers and coffee-lovers – locally and from abroad! Although a big chapter is ending for us, we feel so grateful for the incredible work we've been able to do.”
