What’s open and closed on Colonel By Day in Ottawa

The August long weekend is upon us, which comes with closures and schedule changes to be aware of.

Monday, Aug. 7 is not a statutory holiday so many retail stores are open and it’s business as usual in Quebec, but City of Ottawa services are affected.

Here’s what’s open and closed on Monday (Colonel By Day).

Shopping:

  • Rideau Centre: 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
  • Bayshore: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • St. Laurent: 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.
  • Billings Bridge: 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.
  • Place d’Orleans: 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.
  • Carlingwood: 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • The ByWard Market is open.
  • Most grocery stores are open.
  • Shoppers Drug Mart locations are open.

 

LCBO and Beer Stores:

Select The Beer Store locations will be open from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.

  • 1860 Bank Street.
  • 1984 Baseline Road.
  • 515 Somerset Street.
  • 548 Montreal Road.

 

Select LCBO outlets will be open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and you’re encouraged to call ahead to check individual locations.

OC Transpo:

  • The entire O-Train line is closed until further notice due to a mechanical problem discovered during a routine inspection.
  • Buses will run on a Sunday schedule, with increased service on busy routes. Select trips on Routes 61, 63, and 75 will extend to Gatineau in the morning peak period and from Gatineau in the afternoon peak period.
  • Para Transpo will run on a holiday service.

City of Ottawa recreation services:

  • Wading pools, indoor pools, outdoor pools, arenas as well as recreation and fitness centres will operate on modified schedules. Check ottawa.ca for details.
  • Splash pads are open.
  • Beaches at Mooney’s Bay, Britannia and Petrie Island are open and supervised between 12 p.m. and 7 p.m.
  • All art centres, theatres, galleries, archives and museums will be closed. City Hall Art Gallery and Karsh-Masson Gallery will be closed.
  • The City of Ottawa Archives and Gallery 112 will be closed.

 

Client Service Centres:

  • The City’s 3-1-1 Contact Centre will be open for urgent matters only. Visit ottawa.ca/311 for more information.
  • The Client Services Centres at Ottawa City Hall, Ben Franklin Place, 580 Terry Fox Drive, 255 Centrum Boulevard and the City’s Provincial Offences Court at 100 Constellation Drive will be closed.
  • The Business Licensing Centre at 735 Industrial Avenue will be closed.

 

Green bin, recycling and garbage collection:

  • There will be no curbside green bin, recycling, garbage or bulky item collection. Collection scheduled for Monday will be collected on Tuesday. Collection will be delayed by one day for the entire week.
  • Multi-residential garbage containers will be collected on the regular collection day. Multi-residential bulky items, recycling, and green bin collection scheduled for Monday will be collected on Tuesday. Collection for these items will also be delayed by one day for the rest of the week.
  • The Trail Waste Facility will be open.

 

Parking:

  • All City parking regulations and restrictions apply.

 

Municipal child care services:

  • All municipal child care centres will be closed.

 

Library Services:

  • All Ottawa Public Library branches will be closed, but virtual services, loans and programs can be accessed on the Ottawa Public Library website.
