No technical issues as City launches registration for fall non-aquatic programs

The City of Ottawa said there were no technical issues as parents across Ottawa registered their children for fall non-aquatic programs on Wednesday evening.

The City launched the registration for programs on Wednesday, Aug. 23 at 9 p.m, one week after the initial registration period was postponed due to technical glitches.

“Residents were able to successfully book programs for the upcoming season with minimal wait times,” said Dan Chenier, the general manager of the recreation, cultural and facility services department with the City in a memo released to council members on Thursday, Aug. 24.

The new ACTIVENet platform used by the City for online registrations crashed on Aug. 14 as thousands of Ottawa parents were attempting to register their children for fall swimming lessons.

Chenier said following adjustments made to the platform, 10,000 registrations were processed in the first 10 minutes without any delays, adding that the service processed over 14,000 registrations this morning.

“Staff remain committed to working with ACTIVENet to ensure a reliable service,” Chenier added.
