Ottawa woman faces seven charges in connection to early August double fatal collision

Ottawa Police Service (OPS) Fatal Collision investigators have charged one person in relation to a collision last month in the city’s east end where two people died.

Emergency crews responded just after midnight to a collision at the intersection of St. Laurent Boulevard and Montreal Road on Aug. 2.

A statement from the Ottawa Fire Service (OFS) confirmed that both vehicles were on fire upon their arrival.

One was fully engulfed in flames, while the other had a fire in the engine compartment, which left the driver trapped inside the vehicle.

Two people, a 41-year-old man and a 44-year-old man, were pronounced dead at the scene, while a third person was in critical condition.

Police have now arrested Shallen McKay,32, of Ottawa with:  

  • Impaired operation causing death (two counts)
  • Dangerous operation causing death (two counts)
  • Operation while prohibited
  • Breach of probation
  • Take motor vehicle without consent
 
McKay is scheduled to appear in court today.
