Warm weather forecast as autumn arrives Saturday

By Alex Black

Summer is coming to an end.

Autumn officially arrives at 2:50 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 23, however, the season is getting off to a warm start.

According to CityNews Ottawa weather specialist Denise Andreacchi, you won’t be missing summer much in the short term.

“It is going to be a pretty nice start to the fall for us in Ottawa and Smiths Falls,” Andreacchi said. “It’s been a mild September and the models are hinting that the first two weeks of fall will be on the warm side. We are going to trend likely above seasonal pretty much every day.”

Andreacchi says average highs around this time of year are between 16-18 C and looking at Ottawa’s current five-day forecast, Environment Canada is predicting daytime highs between 18-23 C and overnight lows between 8-12 C.

On top of being above average temperature-wise, Andreacchi says it will be dry for the most part.

“There also a lot of sunshine in the forecasts,” she says. “There is nothing better than a mild, sunny fall day.”

This picture differs from an earlier prediction made by the Weather Network, which had called for a cooler start to the season and then warmer temperatures leading into winter.
