Barrhaven townhomes unhabitable after overnight fire

By the time crews arrived, the second floor of a townhouse in Barrhaven was engulfed in flames.

Firefighters first got the call just before 1:00 a.m. on Wednesday, and were sent to the 1000 block of Parnian Private. They found a row of townhomes where flames and black smoke were coming from the second floor of the building.

Crews said they found a porch on fire on the second and third floors, and flames were spreading quickly to the home. Within minutes, a team was dousing the structure with water while another went inside the home with a hose.

Fire crews were also searching the home for people and completed two searches with no one left inside.

The fire was declared under control over an hour after first being reported.

Victim services were dispatched to the scene to help the multiple families impacted by the blaze. According to fire officials, five units suffered smoke and/or water damage from the incident.

A fire investigator was dispatched to the scene to determine the cause of the fire.
