Firefighter injured while battling house fire in Bells Corners

By CityNews Ottawa staff

An Ottawa firefighter has been injured while fighting a house fire in Bells Corners.

Ottawa Fire Services (OFS) responded Trinity Drive between Aberfeldy Street and Cherrywood Drive around 5:30 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 24, following about a dozen 9-1-1 calls.

Callers reported smoke and flames from a single family home, and due to the number of calls, a working fire was declared while crews were enroute.

Firefighters were on scene within four minutes to find smoke coming from three sides of the home. OFS says crews initiated a fast attack and found the fire centred around a main floor bedroom.

The fire was brought under control within 20 minutes, though overhaul operations were required because the fire had spread into the attic,

According to OFS, the firefighter injury is non-critical.

A fire investigator is working to determine the origin and cause.
