An off-duty officer with the Windsor Police Service has been charged with assault after an incident in the nation’s capital last weekend.

Sergeant Deler Bal has been charged by the Ottawa Police Service (OPS) following an alleged physical altercation at a restaurant in Ottawa’s ByWard Market on Saturday, Sept. 23.

He has been charged with two counts of assault and one count of assault causing bodily harm.

In an email to CityNews Ottawa, OPS said this incident is not connected to the assault of two off-duty police officers from the Toronto area that took place in the same area last weekend.

According to Windsor police, Sgt. Bal will be reassigned pending the outcome of the investigation.
