Callers reported truck speeding, dangerously passing before rollover crash

Police laid charges following a single-vehicle rollover collision near Smiths Falls after several callers reported dangerous driving.

It happened June 10, just after 7:30 a.m., on County Road 43 near Kilmarnock Road in Lanark County. Police were told by 911 callers that a pick-up truck was speeding and passing other vehicles before heading off into the ditch.

On scene, officers had to break the front windshield to get the driver out. They saw behaviour that led them to further investigate whether the driver was impaired. After a roadside breath sample, the 40-year-old was arrested.

Further testing after the person was transported to hospital with minor injuries showed they registered more than three times the legal limit of blood alcohol concentration.

The accused is facing charges of:

  • Operation while impaired – alcohol
  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
  • Dangerous operation

The person was released from custody with a court date.
