ERs at Perth and Smiths Falls District Hospitals under ‘Code Orange’

The emergency departments at both sites of the Perth and Smiths Falls District Hospital (PSFDH) have declared ‘Code Orange’ situations as they are currently dealing with capacity pressures and a high number of admissions.

Officials from the hospitals said that the emergency departments are overflowing due to a high number of patients with respiratory illnesses including COVID-19 and respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), as well as other illnesses and injuries.

The capacity pressures have also forced the cancellation of some elective surgeries.
