Attendees at Federation of Citizens’ Associations of Ottawa general meeting vote against revamped Lansdowne 2.0 plan

The Federation of Citizens Association (FCA) of Ottawa has voted to oppose the Lansdowne 2.0 proposal.

All 44 attendees of FCA’s general meeting on Wednesday, Oct. 18 voted to oppose the plan.

The FCA represents 70 community groups across the capital city.

The Ottawa Sports and Entertainment Group (OSEG) released a redo of its controversial Lansdowne 2.0 project, and the revamp comes with a higher price tag.

The cost of the project has jumped from $332 million to $419 million, due to rising inflation and interest rates.

The plan has also deleted one of three residential towers that were proposed in the earlier plan.

Additionally, the amended plan includes fewer retail spaces and no affordable housing units, with funds set to be redirected to build affordable housing elsewhere in Ottawa.

The project will also replace the north side stands at TD Place with a plan for a new 5,500 seat arena.

The plan has been met with opposition from community groups and several members of Ottawa City Council.
