Atlético Ottawa head coach signs extension with club

Carlos González has signed an extension to remain Atlético Ottawa’s head coach through the 2024 Canadian Premier League (CPL) season, the club announced in a press conference on Thursday.

“I’m delighted to have reached a new agreement with the club for next season,” said González in a press release. “I am excited to embrace the responsibility of redirecting this project, to bring more titles to the nation’s capital and give back to our incredible fanbase here in Ottawa. We are all disappointed with last season, but we have identified the elements where we failed, and we are already working on addressing each of those areas for us to become more exciting again.”
In his first year Ottawa’s coach, González led them to the CPL regular season title, posting a 13-10-5 record.
Ottawa also went on to qualify and host the 2022 CPL Final, although they lost that championship to Forge FC. He is the CPL’s reigning coach of the year.
