Firefighters helped an individual after they became trapped under a pile of plexiglass in an area in the south end of Ottawa on Thursday, Nov. 16.
Ottawa Fire Services (OFS) said on X, crews responded to the the 3300 block of Rideau Rd, near Bank Street, before noon on Thursday.
OFS said the worker was trapped underneath multiple sheets of plexiglass after they collapsed onto their legs after the storage container holding them broke.
OFS said firefighters conducted the extraction in a tight space and due to the weight of each slab, combined with the time it would take, moving each sheet was not an option.
Fire crews used hydraulic tools, cribbing and lift bags to lift the sheets off of the worker, while also using a sawzall to cut away some of the sheets.
The worker was safely rescued at 12:29 p.m.
