Council votes against transit fare freeze for 2024

There will be no freeze on fares for Ottawa transit riders in the new year.

Ottawa City Council has voted against freezing OC Transpo fares for 2024.

A motion was brought forward by Coun. Jessica Bradley at a 2024 budget meeting on Wednesday, Dec. 6 to freeze transit fares for 2024.

Fifteen council members voted against the motion, while 10 of Bradley’s council colleagues supported it.

Councillors who supported the transit fare freeze are Jessica Bradley, Rawlson King, Theresa Kavanagh, Riley Brockington, Jeff Leiper, Sean Devine, Laine Johnson, Stéphanie Plante, Ariel Troster and Shawn Menard.

Council members who voted against Coun. Bradley’s motion were Mayor Mark Sutcliffe, David Brown, Allan Hubley, Clarke Kelly, Laura Dudas, George Darouze, Steve Desroches, Matthew Luloff, Tim Tierney, Cathy Curry, Catherine Kitts, Marty Carr, Wilson Lo, David Hill and Glen Gower.
