Kingston’s major events centre and hockey arena could have a new name in 2024.
The City of Kingston and the Kingston Frontenacs are pitching a new naming rights partner for the venue and hockey rink, which will be brought forward to Kingston City Council next week.
The 15-year, $135,000 per year with Slush Puppie Canada would see the home of the Kingston Frontenacs change from the Leon’s Centre to Slush Puppie Place.
The proposal will be presented to council on Tuesday, Dec. 19.
“The Kingston Frontenacs are excited to work alongside the Slush Puppie team as the new naming rights partner at our home arena,” says Nicole Kemp the general manager of business operations with the Kingston Frontenacs. “We believe that Slush Puppie will be a great partner for many years to come.”
If all goes well, the venue will be renamed in early 2024. It will become the second sports venue in Canada to feature the Slush Puppie name, and the first in the province of Ontario.
The Slush Puppie Centre in Gatineau, home of the QMJHL’s Gatineau Olympiques, was introduced in August of 2021.
“For nearly 50 years, Slush Puppie has been part of Canada’s hockey heritage,” Jean-Rock Beaudoin, president of Slush Puppie Canada. “This partnership highlights the long-standing love story between Slush Puppie and sports fans and participants from coast to coast to coast. It is an honour for Slush Puppie Canada to partner with the City of Kingston, a community rich in history. This second Slush Puppie venue will continue to serve as a hub for sporting events, concerts and cultural experiences, contributing to the vibrancy of the Kingston community.”
