You can get around Ottawa for free this New Year’s Eve

The City of Ottawa has announced that you can travel with OC Transpo for free this New Year’s Eve, courtesy of Safer Roads Ottawa and MADD.

The trips will cost you nothing after 6 p.m. on Dec. 31 so you can get around safely.

Whether you’re heading to a big party with friends or family, or attending a New Year’s celebration downtown, OC Transpo can help you get there and back.

The O-Train Line 1 will run until 2 a.m., then the night bus service will run through downtown until regular service resumes in the morning. On Jan. 1, New Year’s Day service will operate on a Sunday schedule.

Line 2 bus service will run until 1 a.m.. Trips will be added on other busy bus routes around the city.

How does free transit work?

Along with OC Transpo staff helping customers at some stations get access to transit safely, fare gates will be open allowing people to board.

The City encourages residents and those travelling across the city that night to use the Travel Planner or Transit apps.

You can also call customer service at 613-560-5000 between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. on New Year’s Eve if you have any questions.

The Rideau Centre Customer Service Centre will be open between those hours as well.

Para Transpo service

The Para Transpo service will be on a holiday schedule on New Year’s Eve until 3 a.m.

If you have a regular automatically-scheduled trip for Dec. 31, you are encouraged to cancel it if it is no longer needed.

You can book your Para Transpo trip in advance by using My Para Transpo or by calling 613-560-5000. Bookings must be made the day before for trips booked for midnight or later on Dec. 31.
