Festive RIDE program nets over 100 arrests during the holidays

Provincial police said they’ve arrested and charged 134 people with impaired driving offenses across the east region alone.

Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) said they conducted over 1,500 Festive RIDE (Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere) programs between November 16 and January 1.

In addition to those arrested, police said they suspended the license of a further 37 motorists for being in the warning range of a breathalyzer test.

A warning is registered when a person has between 50 and 100 milligrams of alcohol in 100 milliliters of blood.

“Impaired drivers are a danger to everyone on the roads, including themselves, their passengers, other drivers and even pedestrians,” said Inspector Walid Kandar, OPP’s East Region traffic and marine manager.

OPP warns that RIDE programs can happen anywhere at anytime and not just during the holiday season. Police asks the public to call 9-1-1 if they suspect someone is driving drunk.
