Environment Canada warns that a brief and intense snow squall could hit the capital as a cold front passes over the city on Saturday.
The weather service says that conditions are favourable for a frontal snow squall to develop Saturday afternoon, into the evening. Environment Canada forecast between 5 to 10 cm of snowfall and westerly winds gusting up to 50 km/h, causing whiteout conditions in some areas.
“Travel may be hazardous due to sudden changes in the weather,” says Environment Canada.
Outside of the city, the OPP is warning motorists of poor weather conditions along Highway 401 into the Kingston and Brockville, Ont. areas.
Snow squall warnings are in effect for those areas and are forecast to continue through the day before moving south in the evening.
“Please adapt your driving to the road conditions,” wrote Ottawa police in a social media post on X. “Remove all snow from your vehicle, and increase your braking distance.”
Environment Canada forecasts a clear Monday with a wind chill of -20 C in the morning, -5 C in the afternoon. Monday night will see flurries and a low of -14 C.
