Jackson Bennett retires from Ottawa Redblacks

After five Canadian Football League (CFL) seasons, the Ottawa Redblacks’ running back, Jackson Bennett is retiring.

From Cumberland, Ont., Bennett signed with the Redblacks just before the start of the 2022 season and spent his last two seasons in the nation’s capital.

“It’s truly been a blessing. I always dreamt of being a pro football player growing up, and it’s amazing to say I’ve experienced it,” Bennett said in a CFL press release.

He first started in 2018 with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats after being drafted out of the University of Ottawa in the second round — 11 overall.

He then switched from defensive back to running back in 2019 and stayed in Hamilton until 2021 before coming back to Ottawa.

In his football career, Bennett played 66 games, 597 rushing yards, 239 receiving yards, two touchdowns and 469 kick return yards, the CFL’s website reads.

“As I step into my next venture, I just really want to say thank you with everything I have. It all starts with the people, and I’ve been lucky enough to be associated with some great ones,” he said.

The running back spot is currently open, with Amlicar Polk, Ryquell Armstead, Kylin Hill and Tyler Hoosman on the roster.
