Person dead after being pulled from Ottawa River by firefighters

On Tuesday morning Ottawa Fire Services (OFS) pulled a person from the Ottawa River at the Britannia Yacht Club.
The Ottawa Police Service (OPS) confirmed to CityNews Ottawa the person was transported to hospital in life-threatening condition and has since been pronounced dead.
The cause of the incident is unknown, a spokesperson said.
Emergency crews were called to the scene at 10:05 a.m. after a report from someone at the yacht club who said a person was stuck under the water in the Deschenes Rapids wearing a yellow life jacket.
Firefighters arrived on scene and saw a submerged person halfway between the shore and a capsized boat, which got stuck on the rocks during a separate incident last week.
The Water Rescue Team preformed a two-person rescue. According to officials, the person in the water was stuck in a rope that was used to attach the capsized boat to the shore.
Firefighters used a knife to cut the person free before bringing them to shore and starting CPR with the Ottawa Paramedic Service.
