Former Ottawa education assistant charged with 13 counts of sexual assault, victims include teens

A former educational assistant with the Ottawa Carleton District School Board (OCDSB) is facing additional charges in a child sexual assault case, Ottawa police said.

Kevan Henshaw, 32, of Ottawa has been charged and arrested following an investigation that started in November 2023. Previously, Henshaw was charged in connection to assaults involving three boys under the age of 14 in January.

On May 31, police said Henshaw has been charged in connection to assaults with 14 additional victims. They were males aged 13 to 20 years old.

The reported incidents occurred between January 2022 and when Henshaw was arrested in January 2024.

The school board became aware of the allegations in November 2023. At that time, Henshaw was immediately prevented from accepting further work assignments and his employment was terminated.

In a statement sent to CityNews Ottawa, the OCDSB describes the charges as “highly disturbing” and that they have “been cooperating fully with the Ottawa Police Service (OPS) since the start of its investigation.”

Police believe there could be other victims or incidents while Henshaw was employed by the OCDSB or while working with youth in Ottawa and Nova Scotia.

Henshaw is charged with:

  • Sexual assault x13
  • Telecommunication with a person under 16 years (luring) x4
  • Unlawfully possess child pornography x5
  • Unlawfully access child pornography x1
  • Make child pornography x4
  • Invitation to sexual touching under 16 years x4
  • Sexual interference with person under 16 years x9
  • Sexual exploitation of a young person x2
  • Multiple counts relating to secretly recording individuals

He is set to appear in court at a later date.
