Head-on crash closes Hwy. 401 in Kingston, child transported to hospital

A wrong-way, head-on collision between two SUVs closed a portion of Highway 401 between Gardiners Road in Kingston, Ont. and Highway 6 in Odessa, Ont. on Tuesday.

An SUV travelling west in the eastbound lanes collided with the other SUV. Three people were transported to hospital, including a child.

One driver remains in critical condition, the third person’s injuries are no long considered life-threatening. The child was not seriously hurt but taken to hospital, officials said.

Police cleared out the vehicles stuck in the closure. They used the Odessa ONroute as a way to free drivers.

There were no impacts to traffic in the westbound lanes and the eastbound lanes reopened shortly after 9 p.m.
