OPP lay 70 speeding tickets in this town near Ottawa in one week

Officers from the Russell Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police have been kept busy as they kicked off their Canada Day Week Traffic Campaign.

Police are trying to deal with problems head on before and during the long weekend.

Over the last week, police have laid dozens of charges around Russell and Embrun, Ont. just south of the nation’s capital.

Some of the arrested include:

  • Five impaired drivers
  • Three stunt driving motorists
  • Four suspended drivers
  • 70 speeding tickets
  • 16 seatbelt tickets
  • Three distracted driving tickets

On top of charges, police have also responded to 11 collisions.

Earlier this week, Ottawa police announced they laid 94 charges in this neighbourhood in one night.

Of those charges, 28 were for speeding, 10 for invalid permits and 2 unlicensed drivers. One of the speeders were even caught driving 154km/h in an 80km/h zone.
