5 drivers nabbed for incredibly high speeds over just six hours
An Ottawa Police Service (OPS) enforcement campaign over the weekend saw many drivers stopped and charged for stunt driving.
The Residents Matter enforcement was conducted on Friday specifically in the Barrhaven and Riverside South.
The blitz resulted in 56 provincial offences which include speeding tickets, improper lights, failure to display proper plates and distracted driving.

The tally of notices issued are as follows:
- 21 speeding infractions
- 7 improper lights
- 4 fail to surrender licence
- 4 improper/no muffler
- 4 fail to display two plates
- 3 driving while using a cellphone
- 2 novice drivers with a blood alcohol level above zero (3-day licence suspensions were also issued)

Highlighted by police from efforts over the weekend were five incidents of speeding resulting in stunt driving charges. Police say these occurred over the course of just six hours in one area.
- 157 km/h in posted 70km/h zone (Strandherd Dr / Madrid Ave)
- 118 km/h in posted 70km/h zone (Strandherd Dr / Borrisokane St)
- 135 km/h in posted 80km/h zone (Woodroffe Ave / Grenfell Cres)
- 109 km/h in posted 60km/h zone (Greenbank Rd / Foxfield Dr)
- 96 km/h in posted 60km/h zone (Greenbank Rd / Foxfield Dr)
The 96 km/h driver was charged with stunt driving for having a person in the trunk.
Drivers facing stunt driving charges had their license suspended for 30 days and their vehicles seized for 14 days. They could face further penalties following potential conviction in court, police say.

In total, 63 Provincial Offence Notices and Summons were issued.
Ottawa police tow truck enforcement blitz ends with over 40 charges
The Ottawa Police Service (OPS) conducted a tow truck enforcement blitz across the city last week.
Over that time , 40 tow trucks were stopped, resulting in 43 charges related to TSSEA, HTA and equipment violations, wrote the OPS on X. Four of the 40 vehicles stopped were placed out of service, and one was impounded due to lack of certification by the Ministry of Transportation (MTO).
