Horton Township senior dead after boating accident at Bonnechere Falls

A senior from Horton Township is dead following a boating incident on the Bonnechere River.

Members of the Renfrew Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), Horton Township Firefighters, and Renfrew County Paramedics were called to the scene along Thompson Road just before 9 a.m. on Monday, July 8.

It was reported that a man in a small boat had gone over the Bonnechere Falls and boats from the Arnprior Fire Department and paramedics were launched as part of the search.

The man’s body was located in the water, downstream from the falls, but despite life-saving efforts, the 82-year-old was pronounced dead.

He had not been wearing a life jacket.

The man’s 59-year-old son also went over the falls in a kayak while searching for his father but was not seriously hurt.

He was taken to hospital as a precaution.
