Carol Anne Meehan has thrown her name into the ring to be the conservative candidate for Ottawa West—Nepean.
In a post on X, the former City of Ottawa councillor for Gloucester—South Nepean and former news reporter announced she would be “jumping into the race” to seek the conservative nomination.
“Today I’m watching the news and like so many of you, I’m worried about how liberal government policies are hurting Canadians,” she said in a video.
Meehan said that the capital gains tax, immigration policy and the carbon tax are the main reasons for why she wants to enter into the race.
Currently the riding is held by Anita Vandenbeld who has held the position since 2015.
“It’s true, I want to be the Conservative Candidate in the next Federal election,” Meehan said.
Meehan is known for her work as a former TV journalist who spent more than 25 years at CJOH when she then moved to radio with 1310 NEWS before it rebranded as CityNews Ottawa.
She was elected to city council in 2018 but did not seek reelection as a city councillor in 2022 due to wanting to tackle different pursuits in life. She said in a statement previously that it was a privilege to represent one of Ottawa’s most diverse and fast-growing areas.
