Fair season starts this week in Ottawa: Here’s what to know

From eating funnel cakes to riding roller coasters, Ottawa’s fair season is getting underway this week.
The midway offers classic rides like the tea cups and the ferris wheel or faster, wilder experiences like the scrambler or the cannonball.
According to a City of Ottawa press release there’s always a “smorgasbord” of food options.
The traditional livestock show, local vendors, petting zoo and more can be found at multiple community fairs.
“You can enjoy concerts with big name performers, comedians or illusionists,” the press release reads. “You can watch the excitement of the tractor pull or demolition derby.”
Navan Fair: Aug. 8 to 11
Starting this Thursday, the Navan Fair will take place at 1279 Colonial Rd.
The event is hosting The Ultimutts, a group of talented pups balancing on skateboards and people, for three shows daily starting Friday.
Wine tasting happens on Friday after 7 p.m. and The Great Canadian Lumberjack show is Saturday with three events.
The Capital Fair: Aug. 16 to 25
At the Rideau Carleton Raceway, the Capital Fair will be hosted.
Featuring arm-wrestling championship, clowns and, of course, the midway. Events like a dance party and some blues music will also take place.
Richmond Fair: Sept. 19 to 22
Celebrating its 180th season, the Richmond Fair in Ottawa’s west end will be at 6107 Perth St.
“The Richmond Fair is by far the largest spectator event held annually within the surrounding community,” the website reads.
Offering classic rides, arts, crafts and livestock the fair is run by the Richmond Agricultural Society.
Carp Fair: Sept. 26 to 29
Calling itself the “best little fair in Canada” the Carp Fair promises an “unforgettable weekend.”
With family-friendly activities and entertainment, the fair also showcases multiple livestock shows and an antique show.
It will take place at 3790 Carp Rd.
Metcalfe Fair: Oct. 3 to 6
From crafts to cooking the Metcalf Fair has it all.
Competitions for fruits and vegetables and the best tasting pickles or wine along with many exhibits are set for the early October fair.
It will take place at 2821 8th Line Rd.
