New playground, buses vandalized just before first day of school

Provincial police are looking for person(s) that caused extensive vandalism to a new playground, the roof of the school and buses in Quinte West.

The vandalism incidents happened on separate days in the community west of Belleville.

Officers responded to the mischief call on Sept. 1 in the west end of the region. They noted the slide and play equipment were under construction and hadn’t yet opened.

Sometime overnight the playground was spray painted and the unknown parties then climbed on the roof of the school and caused “extensive” damage to the rubber membrane, officials said.

A few days later, police were then notified of damage to numerous school buses.

On Sept. 3, police responded to a mischief call near West Street and Chester Road. Sometime overnight, four parked buses were entered and damaged, enough that the buses were not able to be used on the first day of school.

There are no estimates to the cost of damages in either incident.

Anyone with information should call Quinte West OPP at 1-888-310-1122.
