One sent to hospital after rear-end collision with crash truck

Lanes on Highway 416 southbound were closed after a vehicle struck the rear end of a crash truck that was on the roadway on Tuesday morning.

Police responded at 9:08 a.m. Officers closed both lanes travelling south from Fallowfield Road to Bankfield Road due to the incident.

“The driver saw it (crash truck) last second and tried to avoid it unsuccessfully,” Michael Fathi, media relations officer with Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), said.

The crash truck was on the highway to protect construction workers who are working on the soundbound lanes near the Fallowfield Road exit.

The driver of the vehicle was transported to hospital but the level of injuries is unknown, however, the crash did not prompt the technical collision investigators to be called, Fathi said.

Official say charges are pending.

All lanes opened on Highway 416 are open.
