Motorists diverted off Hwy. 417 near Arnprior due to fatal collision

On Dec. 12 a fatal single-vehicle crash snarled traffic on Highway 417 eastbound approaching Arnprior, Ont.

It happened during the afternoon commute around 4:30 p.m. near Campbell Drive, west of the nation’s capital. Provincial police on scene started diverting traffic off the highway around 5:15 p.m., warning people to slow down.

At 9:20 p.m. police updated to say that the single person in the vehicle, a 31-year-old man, was pronounced dead at the scene. An investigation continued.

Earlier on Thursday, police noted the roadways between Arnprior and Renfrew, Ont. were “extremely icy.” Specifically, police noted Highway 17, which turns into Highway 417 approaching Arnprior.

Officials said they had responded to “numerous” crashes on Thursday morning due to the slick conditions.
