In broad daylight, Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) from the Ottawa detachment stopped a vehicle on Highway 417 and seized multiple handguns.
The incident happened just before 2:00 p.m. on Jan. 14. Police conducted a traffic stop on the highway between Kanata and Almont, where officers found three guns — two that were loaded — and ammunition in the vehicle.
Police tell CityNews they cannot discuss the specifics of what led to the stop for fear of compromising the investigation. However, Constable Michael Fathi said the man has “an extensive criminal record and was on a weapons prohibition.”
As a result Lance Rowe, 48, of Toronto is charged with a number of offences including:
- Possession of a firearm or ammunition contrary to prohibition order x 6
- Unauthorized possession of a prohibited or restricted firearm x 2
- Knowledge or unauthorized possession of firearm x 3
- Possession of loaded prohibited or restricted firearm x 2
- Possession of prohibited device or ammunition x 3
- Carry firearm, weapon, prohibited device or ammunition in a careless manner
- Failure to comply with release order – other than to attend court x 4
He was held in custody pending a bail hearing.
