Operator’s foot extricated from salt truck; firefighters say

Ottawa Fire Service (OFS) personnel safely removed a salt truck operator’s foot what was wedged in their salt truck Sunday morning.

Just after 6:30 a.m., firefighter were called to 4000 block of Albion Rd. in Findlay Creek where they found the operator’s foot was trapped in the salt conveyer system located behind the cab of the vehicle.

Firefighters immediately shut off the vehicle and began to stabilize it. OFS say first responders applied a tourniquet to the left leg of the operatur just about the foot before using specialized tools to safely extricate the foot.

Firefighters applied a splint for comfort before using a scoop to bring the operator down from the truck. The operator was then handed over to Ottawa Paramedics for patient care.

OFS cleared the scene just before 7:30 a.m. and left it in control with the Ottawa Police Service.
