Hwy. 174 lane closure needed at Blair Road to fix gas line to LRT station

Rideau Transit Maintenance determined that to finish the repairs to a gas pipe that was severed on Wednesday morning by a vehicle, a closure of a lane will need to happen.

On Jan. 29, emergency responders and Enbridge Gas technicians responded to Highway 174 at Blair Road for a vehicle that went off the road. When it did, officials discovered that the car caused a gas leak, which forced the closure the the light rail transit system in the east end for most of the day.

In an updated memo, Renée Amilcar, general manager of transit services department, said the teams have determined that a lane of the Blair Road on-ramp to the westbound 174 will be needed.

“OC Transpo is working in collaboration with Ottawa Traffic Services to facilitate the closure and minimize impacts to motorists where possible,” she said.

Train service did resume on both platforms while repairs to the gas line continued. Switch heaters at the station were not working through the line after the early morning incident. Until it’s fixed, workers will have to clear snow or debris from the switches if they need.

“R1 bus service will be providing final trips to ensure that all customers are accommodated,” Amilcar said as of Jan. 29.
