Black smoke seen in hallway of Somerset building before fire contained

Crews were called just after midnight on Sunday from a monitoring agency that there could be a fire in a low-rise Somerset building.

They responded to the 40 block of Eccles Street where they found black smoke in the hallway of the commercial structure. More crews were dispatched to the scene for added resources.

Firefighters took a hose inside the building and a separate team searched the structure for people. After two full searches no one was found inside.

The fire was declared under control just under 30 minutes from the initial call.

Fans were used to ventilate the smoke out of the building and air quality was monitored before people were allowed back inside.

Due to quick action from crews the fire was contained to one area before it could spread.
