Final list of Ottawa candidates out for upcoming federal election
The nation’s capital: The heart of federal politics and the home of two highly contested ridings where two party leaders are vying for votes.
As the campaign hits the halfway point and people are expecting their voter cards in the mail by the end of this week, Elections Canada has finalized the list of candidates.
Two of the city’s local ridings, Carleton and Nepean, are where Pierre Poilievre and Mark Carney hope to win. The battlegrounds were drawn between the two leaders after the Liberals revoked Chandra Arya’s nomination to run in this election — giving the opening to Carney where the riding borders the one Poilievre has held since 2015.

That riding was targeted by the Longest Ballot Committee, an organization advocating for electoral reform. Poilievre is one of 91 candidates and voters are set to expect a count that could last well into the night.
There are nine seats up for grabs in Ottawa. Voting day is April 28.
